Two of our up-and-coming juniors, Lauren Robards & Dylan Weir, did our club proud recently at the NSW junior track championships held at the Dunc Grey velodrome in Sydney. Both riders competed hard in a very high quality field.
Lauren started with a few technical issues with her brand-new stealth-looking track bike prior to her TT on Friday night, but it was great to witness and be a part of the ACT cycling community as people rallied to her aid to get her out on the track just in time. Lauren has been going from strength to strength and in just a short time she has become a real name in the junior women’s category. She continued this progression with an outstanding weekend finishing 3rd in the sprint and 4th in the individual pursuit. As an interstate rider she did not get a medal but did get recognition of her place!
Dylan also had a strong weekend with two top ten finishes: 10th in the 500m TT and 8th in the 2000m pursuit. In the latter event Dylan was just 2 seconds (over 2000m) off a medal ride, showing how very small increments separate the riders.
Both riders also had a real dip in their respective chaotic scratch races.
Our congratulations go out to Lauren and Dylan on a tremendous weekend. Both have both been rewarded for their hard work on and off the track by being selected in the ACT junior track team. That will be competing in Melbourne at DISC in the upcoming Cycling Australia Junior National Championships later this month!
Good Luck to you both!
