Over the weekend club u17 rider Jordan Louis competed at the NSW sprint, pursuit and scratch championships at the Dunc Gray velodrome. Here’s his report:
“I had one of the most successful NSW state champs and the time of my life!
I qualified 2nd in the flying 200 with 11.468 (a new ACT record), but had 3 very hard sprints with Kai Chapman in the semi final. After a very short 5minutes to get back to the start line for the bronze ride off, Charles was too strong and I had to settle for 4th!
My 500m TT wasn’t as strong as I would have liked due to a problem with my helmet but still good enough to claim 3rd.
And then there was the 2km pursuit. I set the fastest qualifying time and was the 2nd person to ever go under 2:20 in the final, posting a 2:19:572 (a new ACT record, breaking the set in qualifying) and going about 1 sec slower than the national record!
The last event of the weekend was the scratch race and I was happy to have one of my best friends beat me and claim the silver.
So all in all I had a weekend to remember and I’d just like to make a special mention to my friends and family for the support and my cycling coach, Bec, and my gym coach, Dave, you guys are a very big part of my life and help me achieve the best in me, so thanks guys!”

*A note on the podium picture. Due to a quirk of the Cycling NSW rules, ACT riders are no eligible for NSW championship medals, but they are still allowed to stand on the podium! Hence Jordan sharing the top step.
