It’s hard not to be a fan of Nathan Haas, one of the friendliest guys in the peloton, so it’s great to see the Vikings pro back in the prize money so early in the year.
It all started in the Peoples Choice Classic criterium, which featured Haasy driving the main break of the day and taking out three of the four intermediate sprints. It turns out this was just a prelude to a great performance in the Tour Down Under itself, the first UCI World Tour event for the year. Despite having spent the early stages pacing his team mates up the climbs and leading out for the stage finishes, Haas suddenly found himself at 4th on GC when he finished stage 3 behind Cadel Evans. He was now the team leader and it was pretty clear that Haas was back on form for 2014! Haas eventually finished 5th on GC, impressing many with not only his animated riding but also his massive guns.
Now set to be the designated leader for Garmin-Sharp at the upcoming Herald Sun Tour, it’s all left Haasy with plenty to sing about.
